John W. Big John Bayless, 89 of Dumas, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2012. Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 14, 2012 in Morrison Memorial Chapel in Dumas. Rev. Darrell Wait, pastor of First Christian Church in Dumas will be officiating. Interment will follow in Dumas Cemetery, with a flag detail provided by American Legion Post 224 of Dumas. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, January 13, 2012 at the funeral home. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors. John was born on September 26, 1922 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to John and Ada Bayless. He attended Oklahoma AM University. John served his country in the US Navy. He was united in marriage to Irene Black on March 31, 1946 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. They shared their life together in the Dumas community since 1952. John worked as a carpenter and was employed by Diamond Shamrock until his retirement. He was a member of Bethel Assembly of God in Dumas. John was a beloved and devoted husband and father. He was an avid John Wayne fan and fisherman. In addition to his wife, John was also preceded in death by his parents, his sons, James Bayless and Steve Bayless, several brothersinlaw, his soninlaw, Gary Cummins, and one grandson, Michael Cummins. John is survived by his daughter, Sharon Cummins of Pueblo, CO two sisters, Daisy Nicholson and Eva Hornbaker, both of Wichita, KS daughterinlaw, Pat Bayless of Arlington six grandchildren, Vicki Lopez and husband, Jesus of Pueblo, Randall Cummins and wife Molly of Cimarron, KS, Pam Simpson of Azle, TX, Julye Byrd and husband Forrest of Azle, Marshall Bayless and wife Suzanne of Grand Prairie, TX, and Kathy Barron and husband, James of Wylie, TX eight greatgrandchildren, Ally, Jennifer, Melanie, Savannah, Aubriana, Jesse Michael, Taylor and Wesley sisterinlaw, Elaine Black of Perkins, OK brotherinlaw, Clyde Black of Amarillo numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. The family will be at 522 Spruce in Dumas.
