John Edward Jowell Jr., 76 of Dumas, passed away early Wednesday, June 30, 2021. A memorial service is scheduled for 11 o’clock in the morning on Saturday, July 3, 2021, at First Baptist Church with Pastor Matt Price, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson-Morrison Funeral Directors. John was born September 27, 1944, in Plainview, TX to John Edward Sr. and Miriam (Crass) Jowell. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam conflict receiving the Army Commendation Medal. He married the love of his life, Belva Bradford, April 1, 1970, at Ft. De Russy in Honolulu, HI. They made Dumas their home where John began a 10-year teaching career teaching PE at Green Acres and ICT at Dumas High School. After teaching, John worked for Valero and retired from there. He was an avid pilot and flight instructor. John was a gentle soul who cared deeply about others and truly loved God and walked his faith. He enjoyed being outdoors and spent many hours on the driveway playing 1 on 1, catching thousands of pitches, water skiing, snow skiing, and flying model airplanes. John was a fierce competitor who was passionate about his family, and he loved watching his children and grandchildren in their activities. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his brother, Bill Jowell and his father-in-law O.C. (Clay) Bradford.John is survived by his wife Belva of the home; daughters: Amy Jowell and partner Chastity Yarberry of Dallas, TX and Marla Wilson and husband Shawn of Lewisville, TX; grandchildren: Ford, Cash, Ashton, and Aidan Wilson all of Lewisville, TX; mother-in-law: Lorene Cox of Dumas, TX; brother-in-law: Marcus Bradford and wife Jill of Amarillo, TX; sister-in-law: Bonita Jowell of Huntsville, TX; 2 nephews, 3 nieces and many other numerous family and friends.
