John E. "Big John" Green, 87 of Dumas, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2020. Memorial services are scheduled for 2 oclock in the afternoon on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Watson officiating and John Green and Dustin Warren assisting. DPS honors will be provided by the DPS Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 oclock until 8 oclock in the evening on Monday at the funeral home. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors.
John was born on September 2, 1932 in Smackover, AR to John Sr. and Emma Green. At a very young age the family moved to Oak Grove Louisiana, where John was raised and graduated from Oak Grove High School. Johns life was devoted to service. He joined the United States Army Air Corp as an engineer and after his military service, John continued to serve his community by becoming a DPS Trooper. John and Faye were married on October 3, 1953 in Oak Grove, LA; the couple would move for a one-year assignment that would turn into a lifetime assignment to Dumas, TX where the couple would raise their children and make their home. During Johns service in law enforcement, he was licensed as a defensive driving instructor and administered countless driving exams. John would retire from DPS in 1992 but continue to serve as a Special Texas Ranger until 2018. John could always be found helping others including mowing and helping widows with chores and repairs around their house. John was recognized with the award of Seven Who Care for his lifetime service to others. John was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and loved the Lord, eventually becoming an ordained minister.
John was preceded in death by his parents and wife Faye in 2018.
John is survived by his son: John Green and wife Rhonda of Houston, TX; daughter: Rena Warren and husband Robert of Dumas, TX; brother: Glenn Green of Oak Grove, LA; grandchildren: Dustin Warren and wife Angela of Sunray, TX, Jennifer Warren of Canyon, TX, Dallas Green and wife Chelsea of Dallas, TX, Becca Martinez and husband Isaiah of Clarksville, TN; great grandchildren: Kate Warren, Brooke Warren and Olivia Rose Green.
The family suggest in lieu of customary remembrances, memorials be made to the Canyon FFA, 1428 Hillcrest Dr, Canyon TX 79015.
