John Haltom

John Henry Haltom, 67 of Dumas, passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2018. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10 o'clock in the morning on Friday, November 16, 2018 at First Baptist Church with Chauncey Spencer, officiating. Interment will follow at Northlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 o'clock until 7 o'clock in the evening on Thursday at the funeral home. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors. John was born on January 26, 1951 in Pasadena TX to Henry Earl and Ruth Heil (Ferris) Haltom, the family moved to Dumas when John was four years old. John attended schools in Dumas and graduated from Dumas High School. He was united in marriage to Sheila Brooks on October 3, 1970 in Dumas and worked at Valero for over 29 years as an operator in the refinery until his retirement. John was very active in his community, he was a member of the Dumas Noon Lions Club, Moore County Food Pantry, Relay for Life, Moore County Park Board, and drove for Meals on Wheels for over 36 years. In his younger years, John loved to hunt, fish, and go to drag races with his son in law. He was a member of the Christ Community Church in Dumas and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents. John is survived by his wife, Sheila of the home; daughters: Charee Wilson and husband Carl of Colleyville, TX and Tisha Tobias and husband Tommy of Dumas; sister: Barbara Bodiford and husband Bob; brother: Tom Haltom and wife Judy; grandchildren: Trae 'Bucko' Strayhorn, Hayden 'Little Man' Haltom, Cambree Wilson, and Carlee Wilson; great-granddaughter: Kiara Strayhorn. The family suggests with gratitude memorials be made to Moore County Food Pantry, PO Box 1604, Dumas, TX 79029 or Dumas Area Meals on Wheels, PO Box 1535, Dumas, TX 79029, or Christ Community Church, PO Box 2000, Dumas, TX 79029.
