John Evan Norman, 87 of Dumas passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024. A Private Graveside service will be held at Dumas Cemetery. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 1 o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at First Street Church with T.K. Baker, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 o’clock to 7 o’clock in the evening at the funeral home on Monday. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.
John was born on February 13, 1937, in Temple, OK to Maurice and Veola (Lyon) Norman. He graduated from Dalhart High School in 1955 and then went on to attend Texas Tech University and later Dallas Barber Academy. He married Glenda Rounsaville in 1957 and the couple moved to Dumas where they made their home in 1966. John opened John’s Barber Shop and operated it for eight years before going into real estate when he bought Realty of the Southwest. John was a lifelong member of the Dumas Noon Lions Club where he served as the Head Wrangler for the 1983 Dogie Days and was the club’s Boss Lion in 1983 ~ 1984. He also served on the Eye Bank Board from 1982 ~ 1995 and received life membership status for the Eye Bank of District 2-T1. In August of 2023, he recieved the Chevron Award from Lion's International for 55 years of service as a Lion. John’s faith and church were important to him. He was a member of First Street Church for 58 years, serving as a deacon and an elder and also enjoyed traveling with his wife Glenda.
In addition to his wife, Glenda, he was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Joan Spivey.
John is survived by his children: Stanley Norman and wife Denise of Dumas, TX; daughter: Johnette Clark and husband Brent of Dumas, TX; grandchildren: Beth Ann Brunson and husband John, Paul Norman and wife Sara, Aliese Pellam and husband Brian and Emmy Crawford and husband Mackey; great-grandchildren: IvoryAnn Crawford, Gracyn Abraham, BrentLee Mae Crawford, Lawson Lindsey, and Elle E. Norman; brother: Thomas Norman and wife Sue; brother in law, Jay Rounsaville and wife Carole.
The family requests, with gratitude, in lieu of flowers memorials be made to The Refuge, 1009 S Maddox, Dumas, TX 79029 or Dumas Noon Lion’s Club, PO Box 416, Dumas TX 79029.
The family will be at 401 Bradley Lane.
