John Oren Porter

J. O. John Porter, 97, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2010. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM, Friday, May 7 at Northlawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Rick Weightman, a long time family friend officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. John was born on June 7, 1912 in Durant, Oklahoma to Thomas and Anna Porter. On September 26, 1931 he married Helen Harris in Durant, who preceded him in death in 2002. John had been a resident of Dumas since 1945. He was employed as an operator for Continental Carbon Company until his retirement, and was a lifetime member of the Bible Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife son, David Porter in 1983 son, Joe Porter in 1990 and two grandsons. Survivors include daughter, Melba Morris and husband Leroy of Dumas Son, Gerald Porter and wife Loryss of Amarillo granddaughters, Kim Srader and husband Johnny of North Richland Hills, Brenda Alward and husband Terry of Dumas grandsons, Terry Porter and wife Ginger of Canyon, Dana Porter and wife Tamyra of Borger, Brad Porter and wife Chantelle of Dumas numerous great grandchildren, greatgreat grandchildren and a host of friends at the Moore County Sr. Citizens Center. The family suggests memorials to the Moore County Sr. Citizens Center, P. O. Box 2114, Dumas, TX 79029. The family will be at 818 Zauk in Dumas.
