Johnny 'John' Lynn Collier, formerly of Dumas, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 30, 2015, surrounded by the love of his family. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 o' clock in the afternoon on Saturday, October 10, 2015 in Morrison Memorial Chapel in Dumas with Keith Kimbler officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors.
Johnny 'John' Lynn Collier was born July 28, 1947, in Vernon, Texas to W.A. and Dorothy Collier. John ran track at Dumas High School and held the school record for the 400m for many years. John served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Upon John's honorable discharge, he attended college at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX, where he graduated in 1975 with a Doctor of Jurisprudence and a Masters of Business Administration. He passed the State Bar of Texas in 1976 and became an Attorney and Counselor of Law. He practiced law for many years in Lubbock where he resided. Later in life, he was able to move to Hawaii where he was active in local politics. He later returned to the mainland where he made his home in San Antonio. He married Hang 'Dee Dee' Luong on February 14, 2011, in a ceremony in Hawaii. John loved to travel and enjoyed being in the sun and sand. He traveled to Vietnam where he took great pride in donating to Vietnamese orphanages. John enjoyed his time reading and spending time with family and friends. He longed to return to Hawaii and live the remainder of his life on the beach with Dee Dee.
John was preceded in death by his father, W.A. Collier and a brother Jerry Collier.
John was survived by his wife Dee Dee Collier. He had four children Andrea Calahan and husband Shawn of Allen, Texas, Kelley Hollenstein and husband Dallas of Canyon, Texas, Clay Collier and wife Lauren of Lubbock, Texas, and Matt Collier and wife Candace of San Antonio, Texas. Mother Dorothy Collier of Dumas, Texas and a sister Kathy Ledbetter and husband Roger of Dumas, Texas and six grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital would be greatly appreciated.
