Johnny Paul Morgan, 80 of Dumas, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Sunray Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Houston, pastor of the church officiating. Interment will follow in Brown Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends from 5 o’clock in the afternoon until 7 o’clock in the evening on Monday at the funeral home in Dumas.
Johnny Paul was born on February 10, 1944, in Dumas, TX to Curtis and Ruby (Harvey) Morgan. He grew up in Sunray and graduated from Sunray High School. Johnny Paul married Amelia Hernandez on August 25, 1990, in Dumas, TX and the couple made Sunray their home until they moved to Dumas in 2009. Johnny Paul worked at Diamond Shamrock for over 37 years until his retirement and then worked security at the plant for another 5 years. Johnny Paul was a member of the Sunray Baptist Church.
Johnny Paul was a loving husband, father, grandfather and granddad. He enjoyed spending his time with his grandkids watching old westerns. His favorite actor was the great John Wayne. He spent many hours during his childhood and until recently watching John Wayne on television. His favorite meal prepared by his loving wife was “chili colorado”. Johnny Paul also enjoyed helping farmers around the community operating equipment needed for planting or harvesting. He enjoyed books about history and of course, old westerns. He was a very patient man and will be greatly missed by his family.
Johnny Paul was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Freddy Morgan, Danny Morgan and Billy Morgan.
Johnny Paul leaves behind his wife of 35 years, Amelia Morgan of the home; children: John Morgan of Dallas, TX, Shannon Morgan of Dumas, TX, Debbie Morgan of Dallas, TX, Jim Bob Morgan of Amarillo, TX, Erika Valdez and husband Jaime of Amarillo, TX, Juan Dominguez and wife Claudia of Coachella, CA and Jesus Hernandez and Chrissy Lighthill of Dallas, TX; brother: Ruben Morgan of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren: Jaren Morgan, Callie Morgan, Chloe Morgan, Marco Balderrama Jr., Karyme Balderrama, Alexander Balderrama, Cruz Morgan Hernandez, Marisela Inthavongsy, Zuri Dominguez, Idalis Dominguez and Melliana Dominguez; 7 great grandchildren and several other extended family members.
He will always be remembered as a sweet loving man who loved spending time with all his grandchildren. He created great memories for them. He will forever be missed dearly.
