Jose was born July 10, 1954 in Durango, Mexico to Florencio and Catalina (Alvarado) Castaneda. He went to work at a young age and would continue to be a hard worker throughout his life. Jose married Olivia (Frias) January 5, 1977 and they moved to Dumas where they raised their family and he went to work at JBS. He was a very loving husband and father and his grandchildren were very special to him calling him "Papi Luis". Jose liked to be at home with his family and they would take trips to Mexico to see family. He was a big wrestler when he was young in "Lucha Libre" and he would often put on a mask to relive those times and wrestle with his children and grandchildren. When Jose was not watching wrestling, he would be a fair-weather soccer fan and invite the family to cookouts where he would support the "winning" team.
He is preceded in death by his father: Florencio; a brother: Santiago; and a daughter: Lupita.
Jose is survived by his wife Olivia of the home; daughters: Marisela Castaneda of Cactus, Maria Castaneda, Liliana Castaneda, and Cinthia Castaneda all of Dumas; son: Jose Luis Castaneda, Jr of Dumas; as well as his 10 grandchildren.
