Jose Big Joe Salcido, 81, passed away Saturday, November 13, 2010. Jose will lie in state at Primera Iglesia Bautista Church in Dumas on Monday, November 15, 2010 from 11:00 A.M. Rosary will be said at 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Sts. Peter Paul Catholic Church in Dumas. The Funeral Mass is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Sts. Peter Paul Catholic Church with Father Juan Carlos Barragan officiating. Burial will follow in Dumas Cemetery. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Jose was born on November 28, 1928 in Chihuahua, Mexico to Jose and Delores Gonzalez Salcido. In 1953, he married Petra Patsy Olalde in Lubbock, Texas. Jose worked in the irrigation industry. He worked for many of the area farmers during his career, and was known by many. He later opened his own business, Big Joes Irrigation Service. Jose loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing. He was a devoted husband father, and he loved spending time with his many grandchildren. Jose had a comical sense of humor and was always joking around with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents one son, Hector Salcido grandson, Colby Alan Salcido granddaughter, Angel Marie Salcido and one brother Ernesto Salcido.
Survivors include: his wife Petra of the home daughters, Christina Miller and husband Jay of South Carolina, Nati Ortiz and husband David, and Amanda Guiterrez and husband Arturo of Dumas, Leticia Brown and husband Ronnie of Austin, and Michelle McNeely of Amarillo sons, Joe Salcido Jr., Eddie Salcido, and Ernest Salcido, all of Dumas, Manuel Salcido and wife Sherry, and Robert Salcido and wife Shawn of Amarillo one brother, Paz Bustamante one sister, Mary Salcido 31 grandchildren, 25 greatgrandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.
The family will be at 1201 S. Porter in Dumas.
