Juanita B. Taylor, 89, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2011. Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at First Assembly of God in Dumas. Rev. Damon Akins, pastor of the church will be officiating, assisted by Rev. Kevin Anderson, pastor of Stratford First Assembly of God. Interment will follow in Dumas Cemetery. There will be a family visitation at Morrison Funeral Directors in Dumas from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, July 15, 2011. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Juanita was born on November 6, 1921 in Clay County, Texas to Samuel and Mattie McGowen. She received a Masters Degree in Education from West Texas State University. She married Mack Taylor in Paducah, Texas in 1938. He preceded her in death. During her career in education, Juanita taught special education for sixteen years in the Hart and Plainview school system. She also wrote and published two books, Memories Memories Two.
Juanita was a member of First Assembly of God in Dumas. She lived in the Dumas community from 1948 to 1967, and moved here again in 1987. She volunteered freely with her time for both Hospice and Rose Ladies, as well as the church. She made hundreds of quilts for missionaries. Juanita enjoyed gardening and always had beautiful flowers. She was a beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed by her family and everyone that knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Taylor her parents, Samuel and Mattie McGowen her brother, J. A. McGowen, sister, Lora Thomson and one soninlaw, Ray Anderson.
Juanita is survived by her daughter, Patsy Anderson of Dumas two sons, Carl Allison Taylor and Rae of Bethesda, MD, and Joe Royce Taylor and Gloria Gorman of Portland, OR one sister, Louise Fritts of Amarillo six grandchildren, Renae Wehunt and husband Weldon of Dumas, Kevin Anderson and wife Darla of Stratford, Kendra Akins and husband Kevin of Geary, OK, Amy Butler and husband Peter of Berkeley, CA, Molly Taylor and fianc Adam Zapala of San Francisco, CA, and Brennan Taylor and fianc Linnea Vaurio of New York City eight greatgrandchildren and five great greatgrandchildren.
