Judith LaVerne Rice, 84 of Sunray passed away on February 10, 2025. A Graveside Service is scheduled for 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, February 14, 2025 at Lane Memorial Cemetery in Sunray with Darren Elliott, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.
Judy was born on February 9, 1941, in Clayton, NM to Eugene Alfred and Imogene (Chandler) Cleveland. She was united in marriage to John Edgar Rice on June 17, 1960, in Dumas, TX. In 1961 they moved to Sunray where they made their home. She worked at Southwest Public Service from 1970 to 1982 and later worked as a loan officer for Sunray State Bank for 11 years. Judy loved golf and was very involved in the Ladies Golf Association and Western Lone Star Senior Ladies Golf Association where she served as Director for 6 years. She also served as the secretary, treasurer, president, and tournament chairman for the Pheasent Trails Golf Association. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Sunray.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother: John Alfred Cleveland; sister: Earlene Cleveland; brother: Preston Cleveland.
Judith is survived by her husband, Eddie of the home; sons: Ronnie Rice and wife Melissa of LaVernia, TX, John Rice and wife Margaret of Salado, TX; daughter: Judy Jo Felts and husband Richard of Dumas, TX; grandchildren: Nicole Rother and husband Brian of Hallettsville, TX, Rebecca Marrou and husband Blake of New Braunfels, TX, McKenna Shaw and husband Nick of Lewisville, TX, Shannon Kurian and husband Kevin of Austin, TX, Jace Felts and wife Karlie of Odessa, TX, Jaylee Felts of Weatherford, TX; 9 great-grandchildren.
