Kathy Lynn McCurley Howe, 61 of Dumas, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2014. A graveside service is scheduled for 3 oclock in the afternoon on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at the Mobeetie Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 4 oclock in the afternoon on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Dumas with Rev. Claude Cone officiating and Rev. Jerry Howe, pastor of the church, assisting. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors.
Kathy was born November 15, 1952 in Lindsay, Oklahoma to Dortha Everett McCurley and Ted McCurley. They lived in Oklahoma for several years before moving to the Texas Panhandle. Kathy attended elementary school in White Deer, moving to Pampa for her junior high and her high school years. The family moved to Mobeetie during her junior year of high school. She graduated from Mobeetie High School in 1971 with the highest gpa in her class. She then attended West Texas A M University where she graduated in 1976 with an alllevel Music Education degree.
Kathy taught choral music and elementary music in Lamesa and Pampa, and then worked as Music Assistant at First Baptist Church in Pampa. She later taught elementary school music and junior high band at Grape Creek ISD near San Angelo, Ballinger, and Levelland. She taught 6th grade science and social studies at Green Acres Elementary in Dumas followed by 5th grade music and 6th grade choir at Dumas Intermediate School. She retired in November 2013. Kathy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dumas where she was an accompanist and had played piano in Texas Baptist Churches for over 50 years.
Kathy married her Prince Charming, Jerry Lee Howe, on December 9, 1984, at First Baptist Church, in Pampa. They were blessed with four wonderful children.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Jerry Lee Howe her children and grandchildren: Carrie Boesiger and husband Darin, Abigail and Andrew Cristofer Howe and wife Jessica, Ambree and Madison Caleb Howe and wife Haleigh, Norah and Cullan Howe her parents, Ted and Dortha McCurley of Wheeler her brothers and sisters and their families: Randy McCurley and wife Carol of Mobeetie Becky Odell and husband Lee of White Deer Bryan McCurley of Borger nephews and nieces: Collin McCurley and his family, Matt McCurley, Holly McCurley and her daughter, Evan McCurley and his wife and a host of favorite cousins, aunts and uncles.
