Kenneth Don “Barney” Barr, 76 of Dumas passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at Temple Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Fobbs, officiating.
Kenneth was born on November 11, 1946 in Dumas, TX to Floyd and Jewel (Farquhar) Barr. He grew up in Dumas where he attended school. He worked at Panhandle Eastern and Duke Energy for 36 years until retirement. Kenneth loved to golf and spent many days at the golf course, even making a hole in one at Pheasant Trails. He coached baseball for numerous years in Little League and Babe Ruth. For his volunteer work, he was named the 2008 Babe Ruth Volunteer of the Year. He also was a very good woodworker and made frames for the pictures of all of his grandchildren; he would always say, “I’m ready to go make some sawdust.” Kenneth also loved to cook and smoke meat for his family and would invite the family over every Father’s Day for a cookout. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Myrion Barr Malone, Shirley Jean Barr, Darla Sue Barr, Baby Girl Barr in 1940, Floydene Barr Carlson, Willena Mae Barr Cook; brother: Allan Wayne Barr.
Kenneth is survived by his two sons: Mike Barr and wife Brenda of Dumas, TX and Jeff “Fro” Barr and wife Sheri of Dumas, TX; 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; 3 nieces and 3 nephews.
The family requests, with gratitude, memorials be made to Dumas Little League, Dumas Babe Ruth or Dumas Temple Baptist Church Youth.
