Kermit Dexter Eslinger

Kermit Dexter Eslinger, 90, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2010. Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, August 20, at First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Billy Nickell, pastor of First Assembly of God in Amarillo and Rev. Damon Akins, pastor of First Assembly of God Church of Dumas officiating. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery with flag detail by American Legion Post 224. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Visitation with family and friends will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday, August 19, at Morrison Funeral Directors. Kermit Dexter Eslinger was born February 14, 1920 in Smithville, Oklahoma to Eugene and Rhoba Eslinger. He served in the US Army, 1st Infantry Division from 1942 until 1945. He served in the Omaha Beach invasion, received the Silver Star and was an ex POW in Germany. On July 30, 1949 he married Myrtle Kelley in Anadarko, Oklahoma. He farmed for 2 years and then worked for Diamond Shamrock as an operator for 17 years. He worked for Moore County before his retirement. He loved fishing and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Kermit had been a resident of Dumas since 1952 and was a member of the First Assembly of God. Survivors include his wife Myrtle of the home daughters, Marlene Eslinger of Amarillo, Arlene Arnold of Hereford, Debra Shelton of Dumas son, Kelly Eslinger and wife, Sue of Amarillo sisters, Margie Pendley of Marlow, Okla, Jean Peters of Euless brother, John Eslinger of Childress 13 grandchildren, 20 greatgrandchildren and 1 greatgreatgrandchild. The family suggests memorials be made to First Assembly of God Missions PO Box 764, Dumas, TX 79029. The family will be at 5906 S. Fannin in Amarillo.
