Leon Hulsey, 96 of Dumas, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at First Baptist Church with Pastor Matt Price officiating, Arrangements are entrusted to Beeson Morrison Funeral Directors.
Leon was born on June 8, 1926, in Floydada, TX to William H. and Ethel Sue (Griggs) Hulsey. He served in the Navy during World War II. After returning, he became a watchmaker in Lubbock, TX where he met and married Doris Evelyn Henry. They were happily married for almost 65 years. Leon was employed by Natural Gas Pipeline for 33 years; he coached his sons in Little League Baseball and drove trucks to the Taylor Ranch Girls Scouts Day Camp. His favorite past time was spent being around his family. He loved family activities, such as playing dominoes, card games (Uno, Go Fish) family gatherings/meals and attending the sporting events of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Leon will long be remembered for his smile, humor and good hearted wittiness. Leon will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Leon is preceded in death by his wife, sons, Ricky Alan Hulsey and Jimmy Charles Hulsey, brothers Charles Hulsey and Griggs Hulsey, sister Volene Jones, and grandson Justin Hulsey.
Leon is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Benson of Benbrook, TX and Debbie Hendricks and husband Stephen of Dumas, TX, he has ten grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. He is also survived by Betty Deaver, a dear cousin of Burleson, TX.
