Leonard 'Len' Sheets, 68, of Dumas, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2017. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 o'clock in the morning on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at First Street Church with Chauncey Spencer, pastor of the church, officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3:30 in the afternoon at Texline Cemetery in Texline with West Pape officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 o'clock until 7 o'clock in the evening on Friday at the funeral home. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors. Len was born on February 15, 1949 to Leonard and Brooksie (Matthews) Sheets in Dalhart, TX. He grew up in Texline where he graduated high school. Len later went on to attend Texas Tech University where he graduated with degrees in Agriculture Business and Economics. He married Genevie Hill on May 29, 1969 at the Texline Church of Christ. The couple would eventually move to Dumas where they would raise their two girls. Len was a Certified Irrigation Designer and had managed T-L Irrigation for the last 39 years until his retirement. Len was very active in his community. He served as a Moore County Commissioner for the last 8 years and served on the Dumas Independent School District Board for 13 years. He was also a member of the Dumas Noon Lions Club, Red Raider Club and First Street Church. Len loved to hunt, fish, and watch his Dumas Demons and Texas Tech Red Raiders. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his family and grandson Baerett. He is preceded in death by his parents. Len is survived by his wife Genevie, of the home; daughters: Kim Sheffield and husband John of Lewisville and Kelli Cox and husband Mark of Lubbock; grandson: Baerett Cox; brother: David Sheets and wife Brenda of Texhoma. The family suggests with gratitude that memorials be made to the New Mexico Christian Children's Home, 1356 New Mexico 2326, Portales, NM 88130 or to High Plains Children's Home, 11461 S Western St, Amarillo, TX 79118.
