Lola Inez North Thompson, 73 of Dumas, went home to her Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 9, 2011, after a brief illness. Celebration of Life Services are scheduled for 3:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at Morrison Memorial Chapel in Dumas. Rev. Brad Foster, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Dumas will be officiating. Interment will follow in Dumas Cemetery. There will be a family visitation at Morrison Funeral Directors in Dumas from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, October 10, 2011. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Lola was born in a school house in Harrold, Texas on September 5, 1938. She grew up in Plainview, Texas and attended Plainview High School. She married her husband of fiftyone years, Jerry Thompson, on February 6, 1960 in Clarendon, Texas.
Lola moved to Dumas in 1963 and has lived there ever since. She was coowner of WD Jones Drilling Company. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, watching old movies and soap operas, and talking on the phone with her friends. She especially loved Mexican food and trips to Las Vegas and Laughlin. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Simpkins her father, Thomas North her stepfather, L. Roy Simpkins two sisters, Faye Roberson and Sally Goff and one nephew, David Roberson.
Lola is survived by her husband, Jerry Thompson of the home one son, Jerry Gruff Thompson of Amarillo two daughters, Carla Milbern and husband Stacy of Dumas, and Candy Walker and husband David of Carrollton one brother, Lester North of Amarillo twelve grandchildren two great grandchildren eight nieces and one nephew and several beloved close friends.
