Lovera McGill, 88 of Cactus, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2012. Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. on Friday, February 24, 2012 at Morrison Memorial Chapel in Dumas. Rev. Jay McGaughy, pastor of Temple Baptist Church in Dumas will be officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at Crown Hill Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors.
Lovera was born on May 18, 1923 in Choctaw County, Oklahoma to Ulysses and Ella Logan Kitchens. She graduated high school in Quail, Texas in 1943. She went on to attended business college in Denver, Colorado. Lovera owned her own restaurant in Wellington, Texas until her retirement, at which time she moved to Cactus. She was of the Baptist Faith.
Lovera was a kind and loving lady. She had been a very active resident of the Cactus community for over thirty years. During her life there, she served as City Councilman, and was the oldest member. Lovera was awarded the Vision Award from the Moore County News Press in 2006. Being community minded, her favorite hobby was the betterment of her Cactus community. She will be greatly missed by her family, and her many friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, John K. McGill IV.
Lovera is survived by four nephews, Bill Kitchens and wife Brooke of Conroe, Lindal Kitchens of Amarillo, Roger Kitchens of Ft. Worth, and Jim McGill of Wellington and one niece, Terri Starkey of Florida.
