Marie Whitwell

Marie Whitwell, 94 of Dumas, passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2014. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 oclock in the afternoon on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Morrison Memorial Chapel with Rev. Darrell Wait, Pastor of First Christian Church. Interment will follow at Dumas Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors. Marie was born on June 16, 1920 in Fort Worth, TX to John William and Bertha Marie Sullivan Thompson. Marie had been a resident of Dumas since 1923 and was a graduate of Dumas High School. In 1941, she married Odell Whitwell in Mangum, OK he preceded her in death in 2011. Marie was an avid sports fan she especially enjoyed baseball and tennis. She had numerous hobbies crafts, crocheting, painting and loved to read, especially the Bible, which she read every year in its entirety. One of her favorite pastimes was traveling to Alaska and fishing. Marie was a member of 6th Meredith Church of Christ. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. In addition to her beloved husband of 70 years, Odell, she is preceded in death by her parents a brother: John Thompson, Jr., and a sister Frances Thompson Harkins. Marie is survived by two daughters: Lora Aldrich and husband Sam of Dumas, TX, Donna Stephenson and husband Randy of Pampa, TX six grandchildren: Stephanie Aldrich of Dumas, Jennifer Aldrich Cockrill and husband Tony of Allen TX, Lisa Aldrich Barbosa and husband John of Lubbock TX, Bryan Stephenson and wife Mariana of Sao Paulo Brazil, Shelley Stephenson Spencer and husband Brant of Amarillo TX and Aimee Stephenson of Austin TX sister Netta Thompson Mitchusson of Jackson TN 13 great grandchildren and eight nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorial be to Alzheimers Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001, American Cancer Society, 403 Pear, Dumas TX, 79029 or to American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave, Dallas TX 75231. The family will be at 203 Carson.
