Marilyn Mitchell 67 passed away Friday, March 28, 2008 in Amarillo, Texas. Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, March 31, 2008 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Brad Foster, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Marilyn was born December 30, 1940 in Dumas, Texas to J.R. and Helen Cain. She grew up northeast of Channing, Texas and attended Channing Schools where she graduated in 1959. On May 29, 1961 she married Jesse Loyd Foster. He preceded her in death in 1966. She married L.D. Mitchell on September 10, 1968.
Marilyn was an enthusiastic booster of the Dumas High School athletic teams especially girls basketball and volleyball often traveling to many of their games. She also enjoyed watching her grandsons play basketball in Hartley and Dalhart. She was a homemaker and enjoyed being involved in all of her childrens activities including 4-H, FFA, cross country and track. Marilyn lived the majority of her life in Moore County where she delivered the Amarillo Daily News, Amarillo Globe News and the Moore County News Press for over twenty years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents J.R. and Helen Cain she was preceded in death by Jesse Loyd Foster and one brother Tommy Cain.
Survivors include; her husband L.D. of the home; four sons, Clay Foster and wife Kim of Dumas, Chris Foster and wife Robyn of Combine, TX, Cyle Mitchell of Midland, Chad Mitchell and wife Melissa of Abilene, TX; one daughter, Cara Powers and husband Barry of Hartley; three brothers, D.R. Cain and wife Francie of Amarillo, David Cain of Austin, Dudley Cain of Channing; one sister, Jayne Clifton and husband Gary of Crosby, TX; grandchildren, Shane Powers and wife Kaesha, Shon Powers and wife Ruchelle, Jonathan Powers, Reed, Cain, and Adam Foster all of Combine, TX, Caitlyn, Cameron and Colton Mitchell all of Abilene, Tanner Rhea of Stanford, Chloe Foster, Zachary, Tyler and Ryan Bybee all of Dumas, Kara Paschal of Weatherford, OK; and three great grandchildren, Madison Schoppe, McKenzie Powers and Thaddeus Powers. She also had four special friends that brought great joy to her life who are Glenanna Craig, Dottie, Mickey Alexander and Wilbur Fields.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Amarillo Kidney Speciaists, 8604 S. Coulter, Amarillo, TX 79119.
The family will be at 902 N.E. 4th in Dumas.
