Marta H. Smith

Marta H. Smith, 89 of Stratford, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2022. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Victor Hugo Andrade as celebrant. Interment will follow at Stratford Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.

Marta was born on January 20, 1933, in Laredo, TX to Arturo and Arcadia (Rodriguez) Hernandez. She had been a resident of Stratford since 1964. In 1962 she married Enrique Camacho; he passed away in 1975. In 1977 she married J.D. Smith. They were married for 28 years until his passing in 2005. Marta spent the last 13 years of her life at Coon Memorial Nursing Home in Dalhart. 

Marta was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and cooking. Marta was a very sweet woman with a huge heart and will be dearly missed.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Beatrice Garcia and Juanita Vega; brother: Arturo Hernandez, III.

Marta is survived by her son: Paul Camacho of Stratford; nephews: Nick Sanchez of Florida, Arthur Hernandez of Ft. Worth, TX, Juan Garcia of Virginia, Jesse Vega of Wisconsin; nieces: Juanita Robles of Farmersville, TX, Elsa Hernandez of Denver, CO, Gracie Favela of Tulia, TX.
