Mary "Delia" Mireles

Mary “Delia” Mireles, 83 of Sunray passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. Delia will be available for viewing at Morrison Memorial Chapel in Sunray from 1 o’clock to 8 o’clock in the evening on Saturday.  A Rosary will be recited at 6 o’clock in the evening on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Sunray. Funeral Mass will celebrated at 10 o’clock in the morning on Monday, September 25, 2023 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Dumas with Father Luis Lopez as celebrant. Interment will follow at Brown Memorial Cemetery in Sunray. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.

Delia was born on March 27, 1940 in Des Moines, NM to Joe and Facunda (Salazar) Valdez. Delia was a beautiful strong woman, who was very independent.   She had great wisdom and definitely loved to share it.  She had a way of mothering all of the kids she met and also disciplining them too.  She married Joe Mireles on June 7, 1958 in Dalhart, TX; she loved our dad with all of her heart and served him faithfully for 56 years.  Delia had a giving heart, a fitting example is, her providing care for her father-in-law for many years.  Her favorite activities were donating at the casino, putting puzzles together and going fishing. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren fiercely.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Jose Mireles; daughter: Elizabeth Mireles; siblings: Rudy Valdez, Billy Valdez, Victor Valdez, Raymond Valdez, Rita Valdez; several nieces.

Delia is survived by her children: Joaquin Mireles of Sunray, Ralph Mireles and wife Beverly of Canyon, Charles Mireles and wife Kim of Providence Village, TX, Steve Mireles and wife Loretta of El Dorado, TX, and Monica Dodson and husband Scotty of Sunray; siblings: Joe Valdez and wife Naomi of Dalhart, Cecilia Gomez of Dalhart, Benita Zapata and husband Raul of Channing, Margaret Moreno and husband Xavier of Dalhart, Barbara Soto and husband Mauro of Dalhart, Christopher Valdez of Dalhart.
