Mildred Bosler 99 passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2008 in Whitney, Texas. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, July 31, 2008 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Darrell Wait, pastor of First Christian Church officiating. Burial will be at Northlawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mildred Bosler was born July 23, 1909 in Amarillo, Texas to Oval Magillian and Sarah Elizabeth Solomon. She was a graduate of Amarillo High School with the class of 1926 at the age of 16. She received a BS from West Texas College in 1930. She went on to receive a MA from West Texas College in 1948. Then she attended other post-graduate programs. On December 19, 1947 she married Elmer Don Bosler who preceded her in death on November 1, 1985. She taught school for 40 years in Moore County schools, Forrest, NM, Shamrock, Canadian, Booker and Texhoma until her retirement in 1974. She taught English, Latin, French and music. Through the years she received many letters from former students praising her for helping them. One student wrote what a glorious lady and life she led giving of herself to others. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church for 40 plus years where she played the piano and was a member of the church choir. In 2002 she moved to Whitney to be with her daughter. Awards she has been given are 1999 Life Achievement Award by the Amarillo Network. Served 25 years on the Moore County Library Board. After her retirement they named her Board Member Emerita. She received the Joyce Dillow Heritage award, West Texas State Achievement award, Top of Texas Teacher of the year award, Woman of the Year, Paul Harris Fellow for Rotary, and the Achievement Award given to her by Dumas Ex-Students. Mildred was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, BPW Club, Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma, American Association of University Women, Rotary Club, Pilot Club, Lions Club, Senior Citizens Association, Book Review Club. She was a Rose Lady at Memorial Hospital with 5000 hours of volunteer service. She was the pianist for numerous clubs and organizations and a member of HUGS. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, O.M. Solomon, sister, Mable Solomon and nephew, Terry Solomon. Survivors include; daughter, Donna R. Pickett and husband, Gorden of Whitney; sisters, Louise Tindle of Novato, CA, Bettye Teague of Virginia Beach, VA; grandsons, G. Troy Pickett of Houston, Gregory Don Pickett and wife, Emily of Waxahachie; great-granddaughter Hayley Elizabeth Pickett, great-grandson, Kyle Thomas Pickett both of Waxahachie, nephew, Jim Tindle of Palm Desert, CA; nieces, Suzy Stone of Novato, CA, Betty Boo Bolero of San Anselmo, CA, Bettye Kight of Virginia Beach, VA, Carol Etheridge of Wanchese, NC, Cathy Morgan and Nancy Wedgeworth both of Amarillo; 11 great-grand nieces and nephews; six great-great-grand nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 1118, Dumas, TX 79029.
