Mirtea Cookie Rivera, 73 of Dumas, passed away on Tuesday, August 02, 2011. In honor with her wishes, no formal services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Cookie was born on June 29, 1938 in Brooklyn, New York to Amadeo and Julie Rivera. She received an Associates Degree in nursing from Puerto Rico, and was employed as an LVN until her retirement. Cookie was married to Modesto Lopez Amaral, who preceded her in death.
Cookie had been a Dumas resident for the last eight years. She was a very active member of the community. She frequented the YMCA and the Moore County Senior Center. She was also a great advocate of Safe Place. Cookie was very talented, and had many creative hobbies. She made jewelry, homemade soap, and other arts crafts projects. She was strong in her faith, and she loved the Lord with all her might. She was a member of Cornerstone Church in Dumas.
Cookie is survived by two daughters, Iris Diaz De Ramos of Puerto Rico, and Belinda Sosi of Dumas one brother, Herminio Rivera of New York and five grandchildren, Bianca Ramos of Puerto Rico, Adrian Ramos of New York, Nadia Perales Lopez of Dumas, Shamara RiveraLopez of Dumas and Myklind ReyesSosi of Dumas.
