O. D. Etheredge

O. D. Cotton Etheredge 82, formally of Dumas, passed away Monday, February 11, 2008 in Amarillo. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at Dumas First Baptist Church with Dale Moreland, pastor to adults, officiating, assisted by Jim Burleson, both of the Church at Quail Creek in Amarillo. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. There will be a family visitation 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at 310 Robin Rd in Dumas. Cotton was born December 13, 1925 in Kirkland, Texas to Edmond Odell and Matilda Mae Etheredge. He received his education in Kirkland. On May 9, 1943 he married Helen Moree in Tell, Texas. In 1946 he moved to Dumas to work for Shamrock Oil Gas as a laborer and retired after 40 years in 1987 from Maxus Energy as a manager of the natural gas department. He took great joy in his job and the people with whom he worked. Cotton had been an ordained deacon in his church since 1960. He enjoyed his church and serving his Lord. Since moving to Amarillo 4 years ago he had been a member of The Church at Quail Creek, prior to that he was a long time member of First Baptist Church in Dumas. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters. Survivors include; his wife, Helen of the home; daughter, Patricia Kay Milbern and husband, David; grandson, Jason Milbern and wife, Marlena all of Amarillo; brother, J. L. Etheredge and wife, Bessie of Pampa; and many nieces and nephews. He was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by all.
