Jim Ingham

December 10, 1936 — July 18, 2022

Orris James “Jim” Ingham, 85, formerly of Stratford, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2022. Funeral Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at First Baptist Church in Stratford. Interment will follow at Stratford Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home in Stratford. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.

Jim was born on December 10, 1936, in Stratford, TX to Orris Henry and Beulah Mildred (Garst) Ingham. He grew up in Stratford and graduated from Stratford High School.  After high school, Jim attended Oklahoma State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education.  Jim taught school briefly in Channing, TX and then returned to Stratford to a farming and ranching partnership with his dad.  Jim married Nellie Marian Johnson (Nell) on June 8, 1958, in Stratford, TX.  

Jim was an excellent artist in leather work, producing extraordinary pieces of leather art over the years.  He was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Stratford where he served as a deacon.  After moving to Amarillo, he attended Paramount Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon, and later First Baptist Church.  Jim was also a very giving man who donated
his time to many organizations including Family Support Services and Faith City Mission.

He was preceded in death by his wife Nell, who passed away in December 2012 and Barbara Jean Cochran, to whom he was remarried in 2015 and passed away in February 2022.  He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Jim is survived by his three sons: Ken Ingham of Tulsa, OK; Karr Ingham and wife Elizabeth of Amarillo, TX; Colonel Kyle Ingham and wife Kira of San Antonio, TX: daughter-in-law; Jody Briggs: nine grandchildren: Miriam, James, Jenna, John, Allison, Grace, Austin, Hannah, Houston: and three great-grandchildren; Adelynn, Aria, and Georgia.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at the Medical Lodge of Amarillo and High Plains Senior Care for their kind, loving, high-quality, and professional care of Jim in the last six months. We would also like to thank his friend Fernando at the Medical Lodge for being Jim’s friend and looking after him.
