Patricia 'Pat' Troutman, 93 formerly of Dumas, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2016. A Graveside Service is scheduled for 10 o'clock in the morning on Monday, April 18, 2016 at Northlawn Memorial Gardens with Alan Williamson, officiating. A Memorial Service will follow at 2 o'clock in the afternoon at Park Place Towers in Amarillo. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas.
Pat was born on February 22, 1923 in Marshalltown, IA to Newt and Florence (Maxell) Walter. She grew up in Sioux Falls, SD and graduated from Iowa State Teachers College with a degree in Kindergarten-Primary Education. Pat taught in Sioux Fall then later moved to Denver, CO and taught there. She attended Denver University where she met her future husband, Herman, who as in the Air Force, stationed in Denver; he preceded her in death in 2003. After his service, he convinced Pat to marry him. They were married on September 20, 1953 in Denver and moved to Dumas where his family were early settlers in the Panhandle and started their own family in Dumas.
Pat and Herman were active in the community and in the Methodist Church. She taught Sunday school and was a coordinator of children's Sunday School Department for over 30 years. She was also a Rose Lady for Dumas Memorial Hospital, a member of Association of University Women, and a Lady Gideon. They received many honors for unselfish services to the community including Family of the Year.
After Herman passed away, she lived alone in their home for six years. Then Pat eventually decided to move to Park Place Towers; she loved it immediately. Pat loved Park Place Towers and thanked God daily for leading her to such a beautiful friendly place where she had many friends.
In addition to her husband Herman, she is preceded in death by her parents.
Pat is survived by her daughter: Patsy Potter and husband Danny of Canyon; sister: Diane McCutchen of Atlanta; brother: Newt 'Jim' Walter of Ft. Worth; grandchildren: Matt Graves of Lubbock and Chase Potter and wife Keely of Canyon; and great-grandchildren: Brightan, Brayson, and Broxon.
