Patrick Eugene Doc Sloan was carried to Heaven by the Valkyrie on October 31st at the age of 51 in Dumas, TX. A memorial service is scheduled for 11 AM on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Christ Community Church of Dumas, 820 S Bliss, Dumas, TX. Services are entrusted to Beeson-Morrison Funeral Directors.
Patrick was born on October 24, 1969 in Knoxville, TN to Gene & Diann Sloan. His younger years were spent running wild in the hills of Tennessee. His family moved to Texas when Patrick was in middle school. Patrick attended Haltom HS where he participated in JROTC as Captain of the Rifle Drill Team. His family were active members of the College Hill Church of Christ and their youth group. It was through church youth activities that Patrick met his beautiful bride of 32 years, Lynette Graves Sloan. Patrick joined the TX Army National Guard at the age of 17 training as a M60A3 tank crew member. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the US Army where he attended jump school and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, NC. Patrick & Lynette married on July 8, 1989 on his one weekend off before reporting to active duty at Fort Bragg. He served our country in Desert Shield / Desert Storm with HHC 1st of the 505th 82nd Airborne Parachute Infantry Regiment. Patrick left active duty in 1993 and began his career as a Texas master Peace Officer, Instructor, and Swat Tactical Medic. He also served in the Texas Army National Guard. After the events of 9/11, Patrick was called back into active service to protect stateside and overseas for Operation Iraqi Freedom serving with Bravo Company 3rd of the 112th Armor Division 56th Brigade Combat Team as a combat medic. Following this service, Patrick returned to police work in small Texas communities where he actively looked after the well being of his community until his death.
While serving our great nation, Patrick received numerous honors and medals including Combat Infantryman Badge, Combat Medical Badge, Parachutist Wings, Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal [2], National Defense Service Medal [2], South West Asia Service Medal with Bronze Service Star [2], Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Mobilization Device, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Kuwait Liberation Medal [Saudi Arabia], Expert Marksmanship Badge Rifle & Pistol.
Patrick loved his Lord and strived everyday to improve himself while serving and being an example to his family. In May of this year he received his Masters Degree in Security Management from University of Denver. Patrick strongly believe God is so good and faithful, if you truly seek God you will find Him. Honor above all else.
Patrick is survived by his bride, Lynette; sons, Michael & wife Sarah, Aaron & wife Abby, Benjamin; daughter, Kara; granddaughter, Quinn; chosen sister, Nanette; chosen sons, Bryan, Jeff & wife Jessica; chosen daughter, Amber; chosen grandchildren, Joy, Joshua & JoAnna; mother, Diann; brother, Chris & family; chosen brothers, Dutch & family, Ross & family; as well as countless family, brothers/sisters in arms, and dear friends from across the world. He is greatly missed. We are diminished.
