Patsye Ruth Henley, 74, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2011. Services are scheduled for 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Dumas. Rev. Jerry Howe, pastor of the church will be officiating. Graveside Services are scheduled for 3:00 P.M. on Tuesday at Hillcrest Cemetery in McLean, Texas with Z. A. Myers officiating. There will be a family visitation at Morrison Funeral Directors in Dumas from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, June 20, 2011. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Patsye was born on April 3, 1937 in Mclean, Texas to Charles and Annie Herndon. She grew up in the McLean community and attended school there. On August 9, 1957, she married Jerry Henley in Pampa, Texas. They shared their life together in Dumas. He preceded her in death on September 23, 1989. Patsye was employed by the US Postal Service for thirtyfive years, and was the first female mail carrier in Dumas. Patsye was a member of First Baptist Church in Dumas. She was a woman of strong faith, and was very active in the church. Patsye had a great love for children and she taught Sunday school for many years. She loved flowers, and enjoyed gardening, but most of all, she enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren. She was very devoted to her family and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, her parents, two sisters, Ella Ann Hanes and Charlene Miller, and one granddaughter, Megan Mathews. Patsye is survived by one daughter, Becky Mathews and husband Mike of Huttig, Arkansas one son, Michael Henley and wife Linda of Dumas three sisters, Louise Avery of Amarillo, Natalie Meathenia of Bloomfield, New Mexico and Kathy Reynolds of McLean two brothers, Roy D. Herndon of Dumas and Darrell Herndon of McLean five grandchildren and one greatgrandchild. The family suggests memorials be to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, The Multiple Sclerosis Society, Panhandle Chapter, 6222 Canyon Drive, Amarillo, TX 79109, or to First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 617, Dumas, TX 79029.
