Pete Catherall 66, formerly of Dumas, passed away on Friday, September 14, 2012. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at Bible Baptist Church in Dumas. Rev. Rick Korsmo, pastor of the church, will be officiating. Interment will follow in Dumas Cemetery. Flag detail will be provided by American Legion Post 224 of Dumas. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors.
Pete was born on March 14, 1946 in Childress, Texas to Fred M. and Pauline Andrews Catherall. He lived most of his life in Dumas, and was a graduate of Dumas High School in 1965. Pete loved to play football, baseball, and he did some boxing while in school with the late coach Carl McClue, where he earned a red jacket. After graduation, he joined the US Marine Corp., serving two tours in Vietnam.
After the service, Pete attended college and went to work for Pioneer and eventually Colorado Interstate Gas Company for 25 years. He then worked for Education Credit Union in Amarillo for 10 years. One of Petes favorite hobbies was fishing. He was also an avid sports fan, and loved all types of sports. Pete also went walking every morning. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Dumas.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Catherall his stepfather, Ted Parker and two nephews, Harvey Kinikin Jr. and Jim Robinett.
Pete leaves behind his mother, Pauline Catherall Parker of Dumas his beloved companion, Lori of Amarillo two brothers, Fred Catherall Jr. and Paul Catherall and wife Mary, both of Dumas one sister, Liz Stavenhagen and husband W. G. of Dumas one stepbrother, Scott Parker and wife Susie of Amarillo and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
The family suggests memorials be to the Thomas E. Creek VA Medical Center, 6010 Amarillo Blvd. West, Amarillo, TX 79106.
The family will be at 818 Normandy in Dumas.
