Rita “Susie” Jeffries, 75 of Stratford, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025. Susie will be available for viewing on Monday, January 6, 2025, from 1 o’clock in the afternoon until 8 o’clock in the evening at the funeral home in Stratford with the family receiving friends from 5 o’clock until 7 o’clock. She will be available for viewing on Tuesday at the funeral home from 10 o’clock in the morning until half past 4 o’clock in the afternoon. The rosary will be recited at 6 o’clock that evening at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Luis as celebrant. Cremation will follow the service under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.
Susie was born on March 11, 1949, in Goodwell, OK to Cipriano and Rita Garcia Sandoval. She attended school in Texhoma and graduated from Texhoma High School in 1968. Susie went to cosmetology school in Amarillo and was a hairdresser for over 10 years in Stratford. She then attended Frank Phillips College in Borger, TX where she became a registered nurse. Susie was a phenomenal nurse who always took the time to teach and mentor younger nurses in their career. She worked at St. Anthoy’s, Baptist St. Anthony’s and later at Coon Memorial in Dalhart. Susie married Roger in May of 1972 in Stratford, TX where the couple made their home. She loved her family very much but absolutely adored her grandchildren; they were her world. Mema was always up for road tripping with her best friend Barbara Eads to go and watch sporting events involving her grandchildren, no matter how far. Susie also enjoyed music and dancing. She was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stratford.
Susie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Robert Sandoval and Herman Sandoval; sisters: Mary Stump and Mary Agnes Cordova; son in law Jimmy Eads and nephew Joe Stump.
Susie is survived by her husband, Roger Jeffries of the home; son: Robert Jeffries and wife Joana of Amarillo, TX; daughter: LaRita Eads Whatley and husband Justin of Dumas, TX; grandchildren: Linsey Jeffries of Maui, HI, Brayden Jeffries of Amarillo, TX, Holton Butler of Phoenix, AZ, Taylon Crippen of Rockport, TX and Jessika Eads of Dumas, TX; brothers: Richard Sandoval of Vega, TX, Benji Sandoval and wife Rita of Amarillo, TX, JR Sandoval and wife Cheryl of Guymon, OK; sisters: Luci Lauer of Texhoma, OK and Pat Hagelstein and husband Jack of Roswell, NM; along with many other nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
The family suggests with gratitude that memorials be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Stratford.
