Robert Bob Collins, 87 of Dumas, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2011. Services are scheduled at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at First Assembly of God in Dumas. Rev. Damon Akins, pastor of the church will be officiating. Interment will follow in Northlawn Memorial Gardens with a flag detail will be provided by American Legion Post 224 of Dumas. There will be a family visitation at Morrison Memorial Chapel in Dumas from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, October 24, 2011. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors.
Bob was born on December 24, 1923, in Panhandle, Texas to William and Eva Collins. He graduated from Groom High School. Bob served his country in the US Navy, serving during WWII. After the service, he was employed at Phillips Petroleum in Cactus until his retirement after thirtyfive years. Bob was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Dovie Jean, on October 5, 1947, in Pampa, Texas. She preceded him in death in 1998. He was a member of Bethel Assembly of God in Dumas.
Bob was very active in the church, and he loved serving his Lord, who was foremost in his life. He served in the Bill Glass Prison Ministries, and was a volunteer, building churches in Mexico. Bob was also a very active member of the Dumas Community. He was active in Gideons Intl., VFW, and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the MAPS program at the Assembly of God Church. Bob loved to travel. He was very kindhearted, and loved by all who knew him. He loved the outdoors and liked to fish and camp. He was also a member of the Campers Club. Bob was very devoted to his family, and one of his favorite things was spending time with his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Dovie, Bob was preceded in death by his son, David Buron Collins in 1993.
Bob is survived by two sons, Chris Collins of Channing and Larry Collins and wife Bettye of Amarillo one daughter, Regina Hatter and husband Ronnie of Dumas seven grandchildren, Cary Ann Collins, Catrina Jaramillo and husband Leonard, Tiffany Mitchell and husband Mike, Alyn Hatter and wife Joley, Justin Collins, Amy Lindahl and husband Brian, and Andrew Hatter and wife Kristin and nine great grandchildren.
