Robert A. McGinnis

Robert A. McGinnis was born on June 14, 1949 in Stigler, OK and met his Lord and Savior in Glory on Monday, April 3, 2023. Funeral Services are scheduled for 11 o’clock in the morning on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Sherman County Barn with Pastor Mark Looney and Bryce Victory, officiating. Interment will follow at Stratford Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 o’clock to 8 o’clock in the evening on Wednesday. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.

Robert grew up in Central and Eastern Oklahoma. He spent one year in the Job Corp, and 3 years in the Army where he received an honorable discharge as a SPC 4. Robert served with the VFW for 16 years.

After leaving the Army he worked his way to Stratford, TX where he met and married the Love of his life Shirley Williams, together they built and amazing life and family. 

Robert worked for 6 years for Stratford Grain Co., 30 years for Phillips Petro Co. as a heavy equipment operator and 1.5 years for West Texas Gas as an equipment operator. 

He was known around the community as a Jack of all Trades. His woodworking projects found their way into many homes and many places around the world including the Pentagon. 

Robert received Christ as his savior at 10 years of age. He was a faithful Member of Heritage Bible Baptist Church since it started in 2006, would witness anyone that was willing to hear about his faith and love for God.

Robert had a great love for his community and many friends. He will be missed by all who had the good fortune to know and love him. He was a Good Man with a Big Heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Mary Ada and Robert Dale McGinnis; sisters: Mary Clorene and husband Archie Weeks, Grace Evelyn and husband Neil Weeks, Luetta and husband Bill Williams, Beatrice and husband Glen Woodmansee, Sr. who were also, parents to Robert after losing his parents at a very young age, they became Mom and Dad; Jessie Ines Brady; brothers: Homer Dale McGinnis, Glen Woodmansee, Jr.; mother and father-in-law: Rex and Lizzie Williams. 

Robert is survived by the love of his life and best friend, wife of 50 years, Shirley McGinnis of Stratford; daughters: Angela and husband Rick Carter of Oklahoma City, OK, Jennifer Spurlock of Stratford, TX; siblings: Carolyn and husband Sonny Ticker of Midwest City, Ok, Neoma (Pete) Challis of Norman, OK, Viola Lamb of Corsicana, TX, Lavona Cruz of Corsicana, TX, Benny McGinnis of Norman, OK, Mary and husband Ben Gardner of Newalla, OK, Diane Merrill of Choctaw, OK; 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
