Roy Durward Herndon, 64 of Dumas, went to be with his Savior on Saturday, August 6, 2011, with his family by his side. Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Bible Baptist Church in Dumas. Roys son, Missionary Jason Herndon will be officiating, assisted by Rev. Rick Korsmo, pastor of the church. Graveside services will be at 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday at Hillcrest Cemetery in McLean, Texas. There will be a family visitation at Morrison Funeral Directors in Dumas from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 9, 2011. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Roy was born on October 25, 1946 in McLean, Texas to Pat and Annie Jones Herndon. He graduated from McLean High School and went on to receive an Associates Degree at Amarillo College. He served his country in the US Navy, serving during the Vietnam Conflict. Roy married Sue Phillips on June 6, 1970. They shared their life together in the Dumas community since 1970. He was employed at Valero Energy until his retirement after thirtyeight years. Roy was also a realtor for Ad Rem Land Company in Dumas.
Roy had been a member of Bible Baptist Church in Dumas for twentysix years. He was very active in the church, and he loved serving his Lord. The most important event in his life was being Born Again. He enjoyed southern gospel music, and ministering to others. He was a member of the Dumas Board Realtors and the National Association of Realtors. One of his favorite things was spending time with his grandchildren. He was very devoted to his family. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pat and Annie Herndon and three sisters, Charlene Miller, Ella Ann Hanes and Patsye Henley.
Roy is survived by his wife, Sue of the home one daughter, Chella Davis and husband Kevin of Westerville, Ohio one son, Jason Herndon and wife Amanda of Vanderwagen, New Mexico his twin brother, Darryel Herndon and wife Jane of McLean three sisters, Louise Avery of Amarillo, Natalie Meathenia and husband Kenneth of Bloomfield, New Mexico, and Kathy Reynolds and husband Gerald of McLean and six grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to Calvary Baptist Church Ministries, P. O. Box 834, Eufaula, OK 74432.
The family will be at 601 Bailey in Dumas.
