Ruby L. Burger, 94, formerly of Dumas, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2012. Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 in Northlawn Memorial Gardens, Dumas, Texas. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors.
Ruby was born on March 24, 1917 in Cimarron County, Oklahoma. She attended school at Texhoma, Oklahoma. She went on to attend Panhandle Agricultural and Mechanical College at Goodwell, Oklahoma, and West Texas State University at Canyon, Texas. She taught elementary school for thirtyone years before her retirement. She was united in marriage to Francis Wade Burger on April 30, 1938. He preceded her in death on January 28, 1993.
Ruby was an active member of the Dumas community for several years. She was a member of the Texas Retired Teacher Association and the Moore County Senior Citizen Association. Ruby was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Dumas. She was also a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class, and the United Methodist Women Association.
In addition to her husband, Ruby was also preceded in death by one daughter, Kay Frances McElreath in April 2009, four sisters, and two brothers.
Ruby is survived by one son, Donald Ray Burger of Euless, Texas three sisters, Gerlene Barrett of Modesto, California, Freda McLeod of Colorado Springs, and Betty Cotton of Monte Vista, Colorado one brother, Richard Sharp of Charlotte, North Carolina three grandsons, Richard Burger of Grapevine, Douglas McElreath of Amarillo, and Heath McElreath of Friona and four great grandchildren, Kalee, Keela, Tyler and Avery McElreath.
