Ryne Stephen Erickson

Coach Ryne Erickson, 30 of Dumas, TX, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016. Memorial services are scheduled for 2 o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at First Baptist Church with Pastor Jerry Howe officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors. Ryne was born on November 9, 1985 in Amarillo, TX to Larry and Ruth Erickson. He graduated from Randall High School and then attended West Texas A&M University where he graduated with his teaching degree in history. He was currently working on his masters degree at Norwich University. He was united in marriage to Jamie Barnard in Amarillo on June 28, 2014 after being introduced two years earlier by mutual friends. He had been with Dumas Independent School District for nine years where he was head of the history department and assistant cross country coach, as he loved to run. Coach Erickson was always smiling, positive, and a very patient man, exhibiting his Christian faith. Ryne and Jamie embraced their nerdy sides by going to New Zealand to visit the sites where the Lord of the Rings trilogy was filmed. In his spare time he loved to play Civilization V on his computer. He enjoyed taking over the world. Coach Erickson was a well known lover of Dr. Pepper, the Chicago Bulls, and the Chicago Cubs, while politics, history, and music from the 90s were his favorite discussion topics. Coach Erickson is preceded in death by his mother Ruth Stevens and father-in-law Jim Barnard. Coach Erickson is survived by his wife Jamie Erickson of the home; parents: Larry Erickson and wife Kittye of Colorado Springs, CO; brothers: Landry Erickson and Lance Erickson both of Colorado Springs, CO; sister: Carolyn Park Randall and husband Frank of Germany; mother-in-law: Janet Barnard of Clovis, NM; sister-in-law: Julie Tefertiller and husband Dakota of Smyer, TX; grandmothers: Jean Stevens of California and Irene Erickson of Waco, TX; grandparents: Herbert Boyd and wife Mary of Lorenzo, TX.
