Saundra Sue Wait of Dumas, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. A graveside service is scheduled for 9:00 AM on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Dumas Memorial Cemetery. A memorial service will then take place at 10 o’clock at the First Christian Church with Pastors Darrell Wait and Eugene Polasek, officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday from half past 6 to 8 o’clock in the evening at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.
Saundra was born on August 30, 1939, in Wichita, Kansas, to Charles Beryl and Betty Hatfield. She was the oldest of eight children that would grace the Hatfield clan. Saundra would graduate from Pratt (Kansas) High School in May of 1957; and then she married Charles “Chuck” Wait on May 21, 1957. After the birth of their first child, Charles Jr, in June 1958, the young family moved to Texas where they had two more sons; and then raised their three boys and made their home from that point on.
Saundra learned bookkeeping and secretarial work and used that knowledge working for several different companies first in Perryton, Texas, and then in Dumas, Texas, where the family moved in 1967. She worked for over 20 years for Brawley Cattle Company in Dumas and in Dalhart before retiring. Upon retirement, she still enjoyed working and worked for both Morrison Funeral Directors and Boxwell Brother’s Funeral Directors selling pre-need funeral plans, hosting family receiving time, and assisting the directors at funerals. She then worked part-time for North Lawn Cemetery until March 2023.
Saundra had various hobbies throughout her life including crocheting, knitting, cooking, and yard work. But her primary hobby after becoming an empty-nester was traveling to garage sales and estate sales buying crystal and glass. Her house was finely and fully decorated with the purchases made.
Saundra was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Chuck Wait; by her parents, CB and Betty Hatfield; and her daughter-in-law, Mary Wait.
Saundra is survived by her three sons, Charles (Cammie) Wait, Jr. of Georgetown, Texas; Darrell Wait and wife Holly, of Dumas, Texas; and Dudley (The Favorite) Wait and wife Cindy of Rosenburg, Texas. And then grandchildren: Miranda Frank, Crysann Edwards, Jason Wait, Rebecca Dow, Zayden Wait, Zachary Wait, Josiah Wait, Nevaeh Wait, and CJ Wait. And then six great grandchildren: Maisey and Abigail Edwards; Georgia and Clara Wait; and Carter and Emersyn Dow.
She is also survived by all seven of her siblings: Sisters Nancy Orr, Ruth Rogers, Jeanie Stephens, Karen Miller, and Jane Jarrett; and then brothers Charlie Hatfield and Don Hatfield. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations be made to your favorite charity or to First Christian Church in Dumas.
