Sharel Ponder, 70, crossed over from this life into eternal life on Friday, December 10, 2010. Sharel will lie in state at Morrison Funeral Directors in Dumas on Sunday, December 12, 2010 from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., and again on Monday, December 13, from 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon. Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. on Monday, December 13, 2010 at Middlewell Methodist Church with Pastor Keith Heights, pastor of the church officiating. Interment will follow in Dumas Cemetery. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Sharel was born on July 12, 1940 in McLean, Texas to Shannon and Bobbie Lynch Barker. On May 30, 1968, she married Don Ponder in Dalhart, Texas. She was a member of the Middlewell Methodist Church.
Sharel loved her home in the country. She was a loving caring mother and was full of compassion. A few of the things she enjoyed most were caring for her garden and the trips her and her husband Don took each year to New Mexico for apples. Throughout her life, she selflessly gave to many people. Sharel was known to be one of the best cooks in Moore County.
Sharel was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include: husband, Don of the home sons, Daniel Rice, David Rice, and Bob Rice brothers, Robert Barker, Cas Barker and Wayne Barker niece, Abby Mitchell six grandchildren and 2 greatgrandchildren
The family suggests memorials be Middlewell Methodist Church, 5895 Rd. W, Channing, Texas, 79018 or to Safe Place, 306 W. 7th, Dumas, TX 79029.
The family will be at 5207 US Hwy 87 in Dumas.
