Stephen Lee Verdoorn Sr, 58, passed away Monday, January 18, 2010. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Brad Foster, pastor of the church officiating. Flag detail at the church will be by American Legion Post 224 of Dumas. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM, Friday, January 22, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5000 Military Rd, Sioux City, Iowa. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 23, 2010 at the church with Fr. Craig Collison officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery, Jefferson SD, with military rites by the US Air Force. Arrangements are by Berkemier Chapel ChristySmith Funeral Home.
Stephen Lee Verdoorn Sr. was born January 9, 1952 in Sioux City, Iowa to Maynard John and Irene Harriet Verdoorn Sr. He served in the US Air Force from 1970 thru 1974. On June 15, 2000 he married Cindy Kinikin in Dumas. He was a maintenance superintendent for the Swift Tannery for 17 years. Stephen had been a resident of Dumas since 1996.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brothers, David and Carl Verdoorn, and sister Teresa Verdoorn.
Survivors include his wife, Cindy of the home daughters, Jaime Winkel , Teri Winkel and husband, Chris all of Sioux City, IA, Courtney Vara and husband Jesse, and Amy Galvan all of Amarillo sons, Stephen L. Verdoorn Jr. of Grand Bay, AL, Bryon Floyd and wife, Jesse of Fritch, Demetrio B. Galvan and wife Monica of Amarillo brothers, Peanut and Rosie Verdoorn of N. Sioux City, SD, Maynard John Verdoorn Jr of Sioux City, IA, Joe and Brenda Verdoorn of Sgt. Bluff, IA, Frank and Kathy Verdoorn of North Sioux City, SD, Eugene and Kelly Verdoorn of Sgt.
