Sue (McMurry) Lewis, 94 of Dumas, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2022. Memorial services are scheduled for 11 o’clock in the morning on Friday, September 30, 2022, at First Christian Church with Rev. Darrell Wait, pastor of the church, officiating. Private family interment will be in Dumas Cemetery under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.
Sue was born on November 17, 1927, in Moore County, TX to J.A. and Sallie (Burnett) McMurry. She had been a lifelong Moore County resident. She married Gordon Lewis on April 6, 1947, in Amarillo, TX and the couple made Dumas their home where they raised their children. Sue and Gordon had a marriage of love, honor and respect that was inspirational to all that had the privilege to witness. Sue and Gordon owned and operated Lewis Plumbing and Heating, a business that showed their integrity and amazing work ethic. Sue loved the holidays and could not have made them any more special for her family which will be one of the many truly cherished memories that will be held dear. Sue’s greatest joy was her family and even friends of family who she welcomed into her home and treated them as if they were her own. Sue had the ability to make every person she encountered feel like the most special person in the world. There was never a time that she was not speaking a kind word or being grateful for life. Sue would be there to listen, to help, to understand, to empathize and most importantly to make everyone feel loved beyond measure. Sue was a top notch, classy lady that lived a full beautiful life and she will be dearly missed by the many people whose lives she touched.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gordon; daughter-in-law Elaine Lewis; siblings: Gladys "Short" Baer, Aline Morrison, J.A. McMurry Jr, R.O. McMurry, Vannie Beauchamp and Doris "Dink" Neie.
Sue is survived by her children: Larry Lewis of Amarillo, TX, Greg Lewis and wife Becky of Dumas, TX, Jerry Lewis and wife Janet of Dumas, TX and Karen Charmasson and husband Mick of Woodward, OK; 12 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild along with numerous other extended family members.
The family suggests memorials be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
