Roy Tod Browning, 72 of Channing, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 o’clock in the morning on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Saddle Mountain Cowboy Church with Pastor Dan Shipley, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Channing Cemetery under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.
Tod was born on February 21, 1952, in Alamogordo, NM to Dude and Jeanette (Coe) Browning. Tod was raised at the home place in Ruidoso, NM, and left the valley when he was 16 to work on the Waggoner Ranch. He was drafted to serve in the Vietnam War, and served honorably as a medic in Germany, where he also obtained his GED. After his service, he worked on ranches in New Mexico and Arizona, and came back home to Ruidoso where he met and married Anne Bartell in 1982. The couple moved to Channing in 1985 where they made their home and raised their three girls. Tod was a true cowboy, born to generations of fiddlers, dancers, and ornery cowboys. He loved good swing music (ah-haa!), could dance better than anyone in the Tri-State Area, and was an amateur historian with an encyclopedic knowledge of NM and cowboy history. Tod Browning was one of a kind cowboy, and will be greatly missed.
Tod was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Dudette Caudle and Becca Browning.
Tod is survived by his wife Anne, of the home; daughters: Annalisa Glass and husband Randy of Curlew, WA, Corinna Browning and husband Riley Seaman of Austin, TX and Emma Browning of Macon, GA; sister: D’aun Nail and husband Larry of Ruidoso, NM; brothers: Joe Bob Browning and Cody Browning both of Ruidoso, NM.
The family suggests with gratitude that memorials be made to the Saddle Mountain Cowboy Church.
