Tommy Wayne Brickey, 77, of Dumas passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023. Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Monday, July 10, 2023, at Morrison Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Dumas Cemetery under the direction of Beeson Morrison Funeral Directors. All who attend are invited to return to the Chapel for refreshments.
Tom was born on August 13, 1945, in Amarillo, TX to Walker and Lillian (Kruse) Brickey. He grew up in Dumas and graduated from Dumas High School. A year of college at West Texas State University was enough for Tom. He served in the Texas Army National Guard, completing basic training at Fort Johnson (formerly Polk), LA, and advanced training at Fort Jackson, SC.
Tom went to work for Colorado Interstate Gas Co and its subsequent entities in 1966 and worked there for 35 years. He then went to work for John Diedrickson, managing farmland, including planting and harvesting crops, which fulfilled his early dream of being a farmer.
Tom loved boating, fishing, gambling trips to Las Vegas, NV, and Guymon, OK., and in later years, his afternoon “board meetings”. He also enjoyed scuba diving and was a licensed single engine pilot. He valued his many lifelong friends and his hometown of Dumas. He once said that it gave him great pride to walk into any place in town and have his name known. Tom was devoted to caring for his mother for many years as her health declined.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his half sister, Billie Brickey Wilkins, and his half nephew Wayne “Chip” Wilkins.
Tom is survived by his brother: Walker Richard “Bud” Brickey and wife Kathy of Tomball, TX; his niece, Meghan Brickey of Houston, TX; his half nephew, Patrick Wilkins, of Austin, TX; and his cousin, Barbara Holder, of Ocala, FL.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the nursing staff at Moore County Hospital for their exceptional care of Tom, and to his many friends who supported Tom throughout his lengthy illness.
Donations may be made in Tom’s memory to Memorial Hospice, 209 Bliss Ave, Dumas, TX 79029.
