Van George Mason 74 passed away Monday, July 28, 2008 in Dumas, Texas. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM, Friday, August 1, 2008 at Morrison Memorial Chapel with Rev. Sam White, pastor of North Plains Christian Church officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Van George Mason was born July 22, 1934 in Dibble, Oklahoma to James Madison and Madelin Mason. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War on the USS Bremerton. He was awarded 5 Korean Service Medals, a United Nations Service Medal and a National Defense Service Medal when he was honorably discharged in 1955. On January 24, 1954 he married Mary Evelyn Woods in Courtsite, AZ. Van worked at American Zinc for 7 years, owned and drove his own truck, and was owneroperator of Mason Dairy for several years. He lived in Hartley for 9 years before moving to Dumas in 1978. Survivors include; his wife, Mary of the home; daughters, Susan Larraine Coffey, Betty Diane Porter, Charlotte Roseanne Bourgeois all of Dumas; son, Van George Mason Jr. of Amarillo; brother Chris Mason and wife, Mary of Norman, OK; sister, Goldie Fryman of Nocona; grandchildren, Duane, Erin, Chelsea, Christine, Kaci, Jackie, Jessica, Ashley, Allison; great-grandchildren, Toby, Brooke, Dani Rae, Jack and Harley. Memorials may be made to Memorial Hospice, 224 E. 2nd, Dumas, TX 79029. The family will be at 5517 US Hwy 87 in Dumas.
