Wayland E. Brown

Wayland E. Brown 86, formerly of Stratford, passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2012. Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Morrison Memorial Chapel in Dumas. Rev. Leland Lewis, pastor of First Assembly of God in Pampa, will be officiating, assisted by Rev. Atlee Runyan, pastor of Lamount Baptist Church in Amarillo. Interment will follow in Stratford Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors. Wayland was born on January 5, 1926 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Oscar and Fannie Hartin Brown. He honorably served his country in the US Army from 1944 to 1946. Wayland was united in marriage to Betty J. Denham in 1955 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. They shared their life together in the Stratford community for over fifty years, until recently moving to Amarillo. Wayland was employed by the Texas Department of Transportation for thirtyeight years. He also served as Stratford City Manager for nine years and Sherman County Commissioner for eight years. He was a member of Lamount Baptist Church in Amarillo. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Fannie Brown, and two brothers, Carl O. Brown and Melton J. Brown. Wayland is survived by his wife, Betty of the home one daughter, Karla Sanders and husband Dave of Arlington four grandchildren, Chase Griffin, Jennifer Owens, James ONeil, and Wayland Griffin, all of the Dallas Metroplex area five great grandchildren and numerous other family members The family suggests memorials be to Lamount Baptist Church, 8400 Lamount Dr., Amarillo, TX 79110 the Alzheimers Association, 2200 W 7th St., Amarillo, TX 79106 or to a favorite charity. The family will be at 8306 Pamona Drive in Amarillo.
