Willa Jean Leathers, 85 of Dumas, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2015. Services are scheduled for 10 o'clock in the morning on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Morrison Memorial Chapel with Milton Pax officiating. Family visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors.
Jean was born November 9, 1929 in Reed, OK, to Luther and Nettie (Smith) Robertson. She married Thomas Joe Leathers in 1946 in Wellington, TX. They moved to Dumas and made a home for 54 years. Jean worked as a secretary for Phillips Petroleum before teaching school in Dumas for many years. She was a wonderful wife and mother and an adoring grandmother, 'NANA'. She loved crafts and puzzles of all kinds. She was always busy creating something or reading a good book. She will be missed by so many people who knew and loved her. Jean was a member of Texas State Teachers Association. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Dumas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Thomas, three sisters and one brother.
She is survived by her daughter Judy Laningham and husband David of Dumas, a son Tony Leathers and wife Linda of Amarillo, daughter , Robin Vela and husband Ernie of Pagosa Springs, CO; two brothers: Jerry Robertson of Darrouzet, TX and Ken Robertson of Rolla, MO; grandchildren: Sara Hendricks of Austin, TX, Jessica Leathers of Wichita Falls, TX, Timothy Vela, of Austin, TX, Tyler Vela of Manhattan, KS and Travis Vela of Albuquerque, NM; and her best friend: Katherine Cook.
The family suggests memorials be made to Dumas Memorial Nursing and Rehab, 302 E 2nd, Dumas TX, 79029.
