William T. Jones

William T. Bill Jones, 91, passed away Sunday, August 23, 2009 in Dumas. Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Mark Scott, pastor of the church officiating. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens by Morrison Funeral Directors. William T. Bill Jones was born, in a sod house, April 16, 1918 in Boise City, Oklahoma to Will and Hattie Jones. After graduating from Boise City High School he attended Panhandle State University where he earned a degree in agriculture. He taught at the university for several years. In 1944 he began teaching at Keyes Oklahoma grade school and became the principle while working on his masters degree in education. In 1953 he married Frances Hesser in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Bill was an amazing teacher in his ability to teach math in such a way that everyone could understand it. What a feeling of success he felt when former students told him he had turned them on to math and they were using it in their daily lives. He taught for 43 years before his retirement. He was a member of the Dumas Noon Lions Club, several academic organizations and the Board of Realtors. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and an ambassador for the community. He served on different commissions of the church and taught the Fidelis Sunday School Class. Bill had been a resident of Dumas since 1963 and was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances in May 2007; a brother, Walter Jones and a sister, Margaret Bergner. Survivors include; daughter, Dana Lynn Walker and husband, Harold of Azle; granddaughter, Jody Bailey and husband A.C. of McLean; grandson, Monte Cryer and wife Georgia of Jacksboro and six great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to First United Methodist Church, Scholarship Fund, PO Box 395, Dumas, TX 79029. The family will be at the Lawrence Bussard home at 401 Bailey in Dumas.
