William 'Bill' Spruell, 71, of Dumas passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2018. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, March 19, at Bible Baptist Church in Dumas with Pastor Johnny Widener officiating. Interment will follow at Dumas Cemetery. Family visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday evening March 18, from 6-8 p.m. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas.
Bill was born June 26, 1946 in Dalhart, TX to Paul and JoRita (Cowdrey) Spruell. After moving to Dumas, he worked as a welder for Continental Carbon for 42 years and was president of his union for over 30 years. Bill loved to coach pee wee football and had many exciting seasons. His greatest love however was to play golf. Bill could often be seen at the golf course with his favorite golfing buddy, his dog 'Jasper Dallas'. He attended Bible Baptist Church in Dumas and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents: mother in law; Roberta Shields; and brothers in law: Red Presley and Marty Shields.
He is survived by his wife Sheryl of the home; his '4 legged kids': Jasper Dallas, Prissi Lynne, Bella Jo, and CoCo: son: Phillip and Shannion Spruell of Chickasha, OK; daughter: Tamara and Anthony Mondello of Rogers, Ark; stepsons: Phillip and Debbie Yancey of Dumas, Justin and AnaLisa Yancey of Red Oak, TX, Michael Yancey of Spokane, Wa; sisters: Paula Jo and Harry Everley of Colorado Springs, CO, Debbie and Jack Peterson of Dumas, Suzie and Ray Bradberry of Canyon, TX; brother: Terry Spruell of Fritch, TX; father in law: Rev. Robert and Dottie Shields of Waxahatchie, TX; and brothers in law: Robert William Shields of Lawton, OK and Terry and Liza Shields of Stinnett, TX. Bill is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
