William Coach Z Zumberis, 72 of Dumas, passed away on Monday April 9, 2012. Services are scheduled for 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Morrison Memorial Chapel in Dumas. Pastor Tommy Long of the Cowboy Church in Dumas will be officiating, assisted by Coach Jeff Byrd. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors.
William was born on August 11, 1939 in Erie, Pennsylvania. He had a Masters degree from Tarkio University in Missouri. He honorably served his country in the US Air Force. William was united in marriage to Ann White in 1969 in Florida. She preceded him in death in 2008. William had been a resident of Dumas since 1983. He was of the Greek Orthodox faith.
William, known by everyone as Coach Z, loved his career as a coach. He was qualified to coach all types of sports, and had done so in Dumas from 1983 to 2009 when he retired. He had also served as a coach throughout his career in Kansas, Florida, and Missouri. He took a female softball team to the World Series in 1981. He had the honor of being named Coach of the Year for football and baseball in Florida and Texas. William was a history enthusiast, and loved history on Indians, wars, and etc. He enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia. Most of all, he loved spoiling his wife and his dogs. He will be greatly missed by his family, and all the people whose lives he touched throughout his career.
In addition to his wife, Ann, he was also preceded in death by his parents one daughter, Donna Greenwood two granddaughters, Cassie Greenwood, and Amber Marie Taylor and two great grandsons.
William is survived by three sons, James William Greenwood of Covington, Louisiana, Stephen Ralph Greenwood of Lakeland, Florida, and Santo Greenwood of San Antonio one daughter, JoAnn Taylor of Dumas grandchildren, Ashley Greenwood of Biloxi, Mississippi, Toni Beth Greenwood of Lakeland, Florida, Stephen Taylor of Amarillo, William Taylor of Dumas, Stephen Ralph Sonny Greenwood II of Lakeland, Florida, Cassandra Taylor of Dumas, and Samantha Greenwood and Lucas Greenwood of Lakeland, Florida and sixteen great grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to the Dumas Education Foundation, P. O. Box 615, Dumas, TX 79029 or to Memorial Hospice, 224 E. 2nd, Dumas, TX 79029.
