Winfred W. Walker, 78, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2008 in Dumas. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 15, 2008 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Darrell Wait, pastor of First Christian Church officiating, assisted by Rev. Richard Rhodes, retired Baptist minister. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Winfred W. Walker was born July 4, 1930 in Bridgeport, Texas to Dewey and Edna Walker. He graduated from high school in Sweetwater. He then went on to Hardin-Simmons transferring to Wayland College in Plainview. In August 1951 he married Mary Jane Hall.
Winfred spent his life in the ministry, loving people in Gods name. He began his service at the age of 18, serving as pastor of the church at Wastella, Texas. He served almost 50 years as a pastor, associate pastor or music and education director. In Texas he served in Tahoka, Sweetwater, Pampa, Perryton, Amarillo, Morse and Sunray. In Oklahoma he served in Oklahoma City and Enid. In Colorado he served in Denver and Aurora. New Mexico churches he served were in, Grants, Milan, and Highland Baptist Church in Albuquerque.
He was also a farmer, salesman and did various other jobs, but mostly, he was in the people business. He always said the best blessings are my family. He was a member of the Dumas Noon Lions Club and Masonic Lodge 1009. Winfred had been a resident of Dumas since 2000 and was a member of the First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Alice Terry, brother, David Walker, and father and mother-in-law, Pete and Mary Lorraine Hall.
Survivors include; his wife Mary Jane, son James Walker and wife, Connie of Sunray, daughters, Margaret Parsons and husband, Don of Dumas and Janet Walker of Sunray; brother Don Walker and wife, Paula of Midland; grandchildren, Wendy Rhodes and husband Philip, Dustin Parsons, Cortney Womble and husband, Tye, Cameron and Colter Walker; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Joshua Rhodes and Case Womble; one niece and four nephews.
